All My Children

Not long ago we were at Templo de Debod for Alleke's first birthday party. Our friend Paul was watching Nic run around and remarked "Nic needs a brother."

"Welcome to the family, son" I said. "That's the only way this family is expanding!"

So now I have a 20-something son. He stopped by tonight for a little while, (long enough for us to feed him; thankfully he didn't bring any laundry!) and was here for story time and bed-time prayers. Then he left. So typical. They don't call, they don't write, they just stop in for dinner :)

But hey, at least the labor wasn't long!

Our friend Heide is here from the US. We've been friends for more than 12 years, and she's one of those people who we can really relax with. For one thing, she has known us for a long time, and our friendship is one that we can fall back into comfortably and effortlessly even though we only get to see each other for a few hours every couple of years now.

Troy and I took today and tomorrow off so we could spend time with her. Today the most ambitious thing we will do is go see a movie (she's a movie buff like us.) We've sat around together most of the day (in our jammies for a good part of it), just talking talking talking, drinking coffee, eating, and watching a movie (of course). Tomorrow the plan is to go out and ride around on the Madrid Vision bus, but that's as touristic as it'll get. Even the dog has gotten really attached to Heide and spends as much time as possible draped across her lap.

So here's to good friends, who know you well, to friendships that you can slip on like a cozy worn sweater that fits perfectly and does your heart good.
