Alcala de Henares
On Saturday we took a little jaunt out to Alcala de Henares, which is the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes, author of Don Quixote.
To be honest, we didn't go for the culture :) We went for the best chicken in the world! When we lived in Barcelona, we went to one of these places all the time. They serve the best rotisserie chicken EVER. I'm not joking, and so far, nobody we have taken there has ever disagreed with us. We even had our fare-well church lunch there when we left Barcelona. We had gotten to know the owner lady fairly well, and asked her if they had any restaurants in Madrid. She told us they did in Alcala, and we have been meaning to go out there FOREVER.
One of the girls in my Wednesday group this semester has been studying in Alcala, and she found the chicken place! So we trekked out there and enjoyed the chicken, salad and french fries. They even had a clown to entertain the kids. Nic got his face painted like a tiger and both the kids got a surprise when we left.
After lunch we sat in the main plaza (see photo at top) and ate ice cream. It was a yummy day!
